Issues
I am unapologetically pro-life, having been adopted by unfathomably selfless parents as an infant. Our laws must protect the innocent who cannot stand up for themselves.
While immigration is primarily a federal concern, Idaho is not helpless bystander.
At the state level we can ensure that taxpayer-funded benefits are not going to those who are here illegally. Employers who knowingly seek to profit off undocumented labor or those who participate in human trafficking should be penalized.
The monumental influx of new residents into the Gem State these past few years has brought opportunities as well as growing pains. Protecting the natural beauty and accessibility to our lands doesn’t require an anti-growth approach. It does require transparency and absolute accountability on the part of local authorities regarding who is behind the energy projects seeking to set up shop in Idaho.
Affordability issues in housing almost always have their roots in low supply and high demand. Easing regulatory and zoning restrictions to accommodate ADUs (Accessory Dwelling Units) will help. Tax relief on groceries and property will also allow residents to direct more of their money toward meeting their own needs.
Tax relief is needed in many areas but nowhere is it more urgent than in regards to property tax. This is the only tax that has no connection to what you do or a choice that you’ve made. It’s the only tax that converts your privately owned property into collateral without you having any say in the matter. The money is there in Idaho’s budget to repeal this regressive tax. I will work to make that happen.
Legitimate government requires the consent of the governed. That means the people must be capable of providing for their own defense. I am opposed to any policy that restricts the rights of peaceful individuals from protecting themselves.
Our teachers are doing heroic work, whether in a public or private setting. If we wish to have stronger schools, we must acknowledge the growing demand for school choice and defer to parents as to what’s best for their children. Competition has a way of bringing forth the best outcomes by clearly demonstrating what is working versus what is not.
When government is operating in its own interests rather than as a servant of the people, everything it touches becomes a power struggle. This creates artificial divisions and tribal squabbles that distract the people while those in power engage political favoritism for the special interests who fund their campaigns.
As your state senator, I will focus on representing the people of LD-26 over the various monied interests and power centers within state government. Legitimate political power originates with the people, not a lobbyist’s checkbook.
